How Long Does Unstaking Take on TON?

Why there is a wait

TON is a proof-of-stake network. Validators lock the staked asset for a validation round, and a round lasts about 36 hours. KTON keeps almost all staked Gram working with validators instead of holding an idle buffer for instant withdrawals, so your Gram can only be released when the round that holds it finalizes.

That is also why the wait varies. It runs until the current round ends, so unstaking near the end of a round is quicker than unstaking at the start of one.

What happens when you unstake

You return KTON in the KTON app or the Telegram Mini App.
The protocol issues an NFT receipt for the withdrawal.
The round finalizes and validators return Gram to the pool.
The receipt is burnt automatically and your Gram arrives in your wallet.

Do not transfer or sell the NFT receipt, or you may interrupt the withdrawal.

Can you exit faster?

KTON does not offer instant unstaking. A KTON/Gram pair exists on STON.fi, a TON DEX, as an emergency option, but its liquidity is thin, so it suits only small amounts and is not the recommended way to exit.
